I've heard back from Celtic Films. It was just a quick email to inform me that they were quite busy and that they hadn't had time to read the second draft of From This Day Forth yet. I didn't expect it to be a quick process.
I'm not sitting around doing nothing while I wait though. I've finished the rewrite of Where Angels Fear To Tread, started a complete redraft of Mr. Valentine and I'm working on episode one of Buddha Of Birmingham with my co-writer Belinda. There's lots to do to keep me busy.
I'm doing a quick polish on Where Angels Fear To Tread and working on the series bible in the hope of sending a few copies out next week. First port of call will be World Productions who are interested in reading anything I've written after I sent them a copy of From This Day Forth (see their comments on the review page). Also I'm gearing up to cowrite the first episode of Buddha Of Birmingham.
Still no news from Celtic Films which I'm taking as good news.
It's done. I've emailed the second draft of From This Day Forth to Celtic Films. Even though I believe it's a much better script than the previous draft all I can do now is wait and hope Celtic Films like it too.
You might remember a while ago I mentioned discussing possible projects with my good friend Arne Reidar Mortensen and his friends at TV Vest in Norway. They decided not to shoot I Do? at this time, because it required a church full of extras. They felt this was too ambitious for their first short film, but have said they would like to film it in the future. They asked me if I had any other scripts that required less people and locations so I have sent them four others I have written. The project is still very much a 'GO', they just need to find the right script for their first outing.
In other news; I am now a fully paid up member of the Writers Guild of Great Britain.
I have just finished a preliminary draft of the rewrite incorporating some of the elements Celtic Films suggested and a few of my own. It is a much improved script and works better on many levels especially character relationships.
The next two days will be spent looking for humour in the absurdities that are inherent in the story and making them more overt. I will then give the script a final polish before handing it over to my reader who will give me her frank, and much appreciated, thoughts. Any final changes that need to be made will be done on Monday so From This Day Forth can be posted back to Celtic Films Tuesday morning. I really hope they like it.
I've been so immersed in the second draft of From This Day Forth that I've been neglecting other work. It feels like I've been doing rewrites forever, so I've had to promise myself that the next two projects will be new ones. I'm thinking along the lines of an episode of Buddha Of Birmingham and one episode of my 2 x 1 hour television drama Remember Me.
I aim to complete the series bible for Where Angels Fear To Tread by the first week of next month so I can send it out and see what interest it gets. And I really must do another draft of Mr. Valentine, it's been lying around for far too long. It's a really good concept but as it is at the moment it doesn't quite work.
I've decided to attend the New Writers Day at the Screenwriters Festival 2006. It's a lot of money for just one day but then again when will I get the opportunity to network with so many people again? I need some good contacts so I'm going to pay my money, practice my pitching and turn up on the day.
I'm well into the rewrite of From This Day Forth and the project is beginning to grow. Characters are expanding before my eyes and I'm finding myself focusing in more on the themes I want to explore. I've had to put aside most of my other work for the moment as From This Day Forth is taking up so much of my time. If I'm not working on it I'm thinking about it. I can't seem to get away from it at the moment. I am however, trying to spend an hour each day working on other stuff just to give my creative mind something else to focus on, so it doesn't get over worked.
The rewrite of Journey's End has been completed and I've posted it to the BSSC 2006 competition. That's the second competition I have entered this year.
Celtic Films have signed off on the notes for From This Day Forth so now I begin the task of completing another draft. Although Celtic Films didn't issue me a deadline for the next draft I've decided to set myself one. The deadline of Friday 19th May gives me just over two weeks to complete the work which, if everything goes to plan, should be plenty of time.
