Movement
15 February 2007
The move is finally over and I've even managed to do some writing over the last week. Cross The Rubicon has been polished and over the next couple of days I will be adding a couple of scenes to add some depth to two relationships. Otherwise it is now done and can be sent out next week... at last.
I've finished sorting out the characters for
Guardians, the children's book I'm writing, and the lead characters' powers. It was important that the powers not be the same for each generation, or overlap with any of the others. I want the characters' powers to be discovered and individual to the person wielding them. Then comes the work on the story, ironing out any existing problems.
I've even made progress on
Faith. Although still not quite fully mapped out yet it's not far off. Hopefully by the end of next week I'll be able to start the first draft.
It's strange, but living in a new property has helped me get my head down and do more work. Over the last few days I have hardly been away from my computer. Let's hope it lasts.
Moving Times
06 February 2007
Faith is progressing, but slowly. The reason is that I'm moving this week and as my wife says, "Packing takes precedence" I think therefore I'm going to move
Faith's deadline back a month and I now aim to finish the first draft by the 31st March 2007.
I'm disappointed because I really wanted to stick to my plans this year so being one month behind schedule is annoying. I'm going to try and make the time up somewhere else.
Cross The Rubicon is still having it's final polish, I have to make it as good as I can after all. It will be done by the end of the week.
I'm also going to rewrite Mr. Valentine along side Faith, in accordance with my New Year Plan of one new, one rewrite.
Stuff: January 2007
30 January 2007
From This Day Forth has had a title change and is now called Cross The Rubicon. It makes it sound less like a costume drama. After a hard slog the third draft is finally finished; all it needs is a couple of flick throughs just to polish it up a little more, and a proof read.
As well as sending the finished script out to production companies (Celtic included) and agents I have decided to try another avenue. My wife suggested that the actor Toby Stephens would be ideal to play the character Richard, so I'm going to pop a copy of the script into the post for him, care of his agent.
Faith however, has been neglected for the last couple of weeks so I'm unlikely to get the first draft completed by the end of February. I'm still going to give it my best shot but I have to be realistic and consider extending the deadline to the end of march.
New Title
24 January 2007
The rewrite for From This Day Forth is progressing very well indeed. I have about forty pages to go out of ninety six.
I have cut a couple of scenes out that were unnecessary, thinned out heavy sections of scene description using more active words and losing the negative ones. A minor character has been dropped from one of the opening scenes, as I felt she wasn't working and did nothing to help set up the story. I've also done a lot of work on two of the main characters' relationship, giving it more depth and history, so when they do eventually part the impact is a lot greater.
It has also been suggested to me that the title needed looking at, so I am now considering
Cross The Rubicon as the new title.
Faith is also coming on, even if it is a bit slower that I expected because I've been concentrating on
From This Day Forth. It's going to be a push to get it done by the end of February, especially as I will be moving during the month too, but it's a challenge I'm still up for and expecting to complete on time.
The Writer Man Cometh
15 January 2007
Good news, my friend
Arne Reidar Mortensen contacted me yesterday and his little filming project has taken a surprising turn. Now instead of being broadcast on local TV the shorts he and his friends at
TV Vest are going to make will be show before feature films in Norwegian cinemas. How bloody cool is that?
The second bit of news is the first one they want to make they now want me to write. This means I'll have my name on the big screen at last. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!
Lazy Days
11 January 2007
The writing has started again, but I'm finding it tough going after a three week lay-off over Christmas. The new games I have for my Xbox 360 keep calling me and I stupidly keep giving in. I am going to have to up my motivation levels if I am going to achive my goals this year.
The structure of
Faith is coming together (slowly) and the rewrite on
From This Day Forth is progressing nicely. I don't think it will be finished by the end of January when I initially wanted it done, but I'm going to give it a damn good go.
I had better crack on.
New Year, New Push
03 January 2007
My goals for this year are as follows:
- To sell a script.
- To get a script made.
- To write a children's novel.
- To rewrite all of my back catalogue.
- To write a lot more than i did last year.
- To send out at least ten scripts a month.
First up is finishing a new draft of From This Day Forth and a brand new feature script (which as of yet I have yet to decide on). I hope to have a rough first draft of the script done by the end of February.
Happy New Year everyone.
